【摘要】:Materialsshippedinlong,narrowpackages,withlengthsatleastthreetimestheirwidthorheight,areliabletodamageasaresultofimpactneartheirmidpointwhenonlytheendsaresupported.Thistypeofdamagecanoccurduringtheshipmentofpackagingofmixeddimensions.Itisparticularlyprevalentduringconveyerlinetransportandsortation.Thistestmethodprovidesameansofdeterminingresistancetosuchdamage.1.1Thistestmethodisintendedtodeterminethecapabilityofalongpackagewithanarrowcross-sectiontoresistimpactnearitscenterwhenthepackageissupportedonlyatitsends.Thistestmethodallowstheusertoselectfromtwotestoptions:OptionAemploystheuseofafree-falldroptester(seeExhibitB),andOptionBemploystheuseofsimulatedmechanicalimpacttestingequipment(SMITE;seeExhibitA).Thetwooptionalproceduresaredesignedtoimpartthesameamountofkineticenergyatimpact;therefore,eachprocedureyieldsequaldamage-producingpotential.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyproblems,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
